Final Preparation for Mock Interview 2010

Interviewers:
Please arrive between 8.45 and 8.55am at the EDM Foyer. There will be a short meeting at 9am in the Theatre to explain the format of the event. Between 9.10am and 9.30am, there will be time to prepare for the interviewees.

There will be 3 interviews for both individuals and panels between 9.30am and 11am and then 3 more from 11.20am to 12.50pm. (Panels used to interview just 4 candidates.)

You are very welcome to join us for lunch afterwards and coffee and biscuits will be available all morning.

Interview Candidates:
Please arrive, appropriately dressed, in good time for your interview(s) and bring any 'portfolio' with you. Times for interview will be posted online by lunchtime on Friday 24th September. Please indicate any time preferences to me before this. If you wait outside the interview room you have been allocated, your interviewers will invite you in when necessary.

Enjoy the morning! You all have plenty to advertise about yourselves and the interviewers always enjoy meeting you. You will be able to gain more feedback from me after Wed 29th September.

Click here to see the former Careers website which is still showing some advice about good interview practice. Also please read the booklet your tutor will issue to you about Interview Technique- the questions for specific subjects are a little out-of-date but the general ideas will be helpful.

If you are interested in a typical interview, the following questions might be put to... e.g. a prospective Medical Student:
    1. What was your journey like?
    2. Tell me about yourself?
    3. What weaknesses do you have?
    4. Why do you wish to study Medicine?
    5. Do you feel you would have time to talk to patients?
    6. What Work Experience do you have?
    7. What impression has this Work Experience left on you?
    8. Are you interested in a particular area of Medicine?
    9. Where do you see yourself in 10 years' time?
    10. If you had a heart available for transplant, would you give it to a 10 year old boy, 23 year old mother of 2 or a 62 year old single man with a dependent relative?
    11. Are you strong enough to make important decisions?
    12. GPs are under pressure. Do you agree with drop in centres?
    13. How do the US and UK view cloning?
    14. How would you improve the NHS?
    15. What has been in the news recently that relates to your degree choice?
    16. Why did you choose '(Insert Uni)'?
    17. Anything extra you wish to say?
    18. Any questions?
Remember it's HOW you respond that matters. You may not know all the correct answers but it's how you handle them. You are expected to be enthusiastic, up-to-date and reasonably knowledgeable. Your reactions and potential are being assessed. Don't talk too much or too little! Be natural and your best self!

07968-263610 or woodyswebwatch@gmail.com are my contact details, should there be any questions you may have.
